Formula HiTech Gen1 brings four generic historical Grand Prix car models plus the licensed McLaren MP4/7A to Automobilista 2. These cars mark the start of a technological shift with traction control, launch control, and active suspension on one dominant machine that outpaced rivals by up to two seconds in qualifying. Other teams raced to adopt traction control, including McLaren's evolved MP4/7A with its potent Honda V12 and semi-automatic gearbox.
Formula HiTech Gen2 adds three generic models alongside the licensed McLaren MP4/8, capturing the peak and end of the hi-tech Grand Prix era. Cars pack active suspension, traction control, fully automatic gearboxes, ABS on top entries, and early blown diffuser tech for extra downforce. Racing simulation fans who crave authentic electronic aids and period-specific performance will race these classes.

Formula HiTech Gen1 features four distinct generic models along with officially licensed McLaren MP4/7A. the first year in an era of technological revolution, in which one team got the jump on everyone else by introducing at once traction control, launch control and active suspension and with that car it dominated the season with qualifying times that were often 2s faster than the first conventional car.
The other teams scrambled to try catch up, and as the season went on a couple of them introduced traction control to their cars, one of which being McLaren with the MP4/7A. The car was a tidy evolution to the iconic MP4/6, finally progressing to semi-auto gearboxes following the lead of both Ferrari and Williams and with the Honda V12 more powerful than ever, overall though a step-up that proved insufficient against the mighty cars "from another planet".
Formula HiTech Gen2 features three distinct generic models along with the officially licensed McLaren MP4/8; representing the season that proved to be at once the pinnacle and the deathbed of the "hi-tech" era in Grand Prix racing. By this time most cars on the grid featured (to a varying degree of sophistication and reliability) active suspension, traction control & fully automatic gearboxes - some of the top teams also had ABS and some primitive form of the "blown diffuser" trick that would blow hot exhaust fumes into the diffuser to increase downforce, a trick that would be in vogue again almost 20 years later. All models in Gen2 feature these electronic gadgets.
