Diceocracy: UK is a single-player strategy, indie, RPG, and simulation game set in the House of Commons. Players build a political career one dice roll at a time, starting as a candidate in a by-election for one of the real UK constituencies and aiming for the top of the government or opposition ladder.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on managing a personal diary filled with encounter cards that represent daily parliamentary life. These include surgeries with constituents, divisions in the House, informal meetings in the tea room, and interactions with reporters. Each card presents choices that affect three key tracked values: popularity, morale, and whip standing. Most decisions require a d20 roll, where players add their score to reach a printed difficulty class, with odds displayed in advance. The physical dice roll determines the outcome based on the physics of the throw.
Character creation lets players assemble a candidate face by face or use a shuffle option, with the ability to update the appearance later through a dossier. Success in a by-election secures a seat and opens access to the full career progression. The government path runs from backbencher through various roles to Prime Minister, while the opposition route leads to Leader of the Opposition. A tracked Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet fill on merit, with reshuffles possible and former colleagues remembering past decisions such as sackings.
Scandals, betrayals, and romances can surface and reach the front pages, influencing public perception. General elections occur based on current polls, featuring a full election night sequence. The world evolves over time, with colleagues retiring, losing seats, or passing away, while the intake of new members ages alongside the player character.
Game Modes
The game operates as a single continuous career mode. Players begin with a four-day by-election campaign followed by the count. From there, the diary drives progression through a series of weeks, each requiring resolution of scheduled events before advancing. Failure in one by-election may lead the party to offer another constituency within three weeks. No separate multiplayer or alternative modes exist beyond this core career structure.
Progression emphasizes long-term management of relationships and standing within the party. The ladder system rewards consistent performance across multiple parliamentary sessions and elections. Events can chain into larger narratives that span years in the simulated timeline.
World and Customization
The map uses real UK constituency boundaries and current party holdings for the 650 seats, with polling mechanics tied to actual results. All individuals within the game remain fictional, generated at the start of each career with names, faces, ages, factions, causes, and backstories drawn from party archetypes. Journalists, lobbyists, and romantic interests are also created procedurally. Offices begin empty and fill based on merit rather than fixed assignments.
A dedicated parliament editor allows direct changes to any seat, including member names, parties, scores, biographies, and faces. These edits can be exported and shared as zip files. A separate Mods folder overrides content files, with an in-game screen for listing, ordering, importing, and exporting modifications. Rules, saves, and achievements remain untouched by mods.
Is It Worth Playing?
Diceocracy: UK suits players who enjoy detailed political simulations combined with dice-driven resolution systems. The single-player career offers replayability through procedural generation of characters and events, real-world seat data, and branching consequences from choices. The d20 checks introduce tangible risk and reward without removing player agency, as odds appear before each roll.
Those interested in long-form strategy will find depth in balancing whip loyalty, public popularity, and personal morale across years of simulated time. The mod support and parliament editor extend customization for repeated playthroughs. Availability is limited to PC with English (UK) language support, and the game includes 21 Steam achievements. It delivers a focused experience for fans of systems-driven political progression rather than scripted stories or competitive multiplayer.
