A mindful Metroidvania through myth and memory
Jigten’s world is set in a post-apocalyptic future, with survivors inhabiting the Tibetan plateau and surrounding Himalayan regions. Our protagonist Mingma, a girl born into this new Medieval order, sees her world shatter when an army of dragon-machine hybrid creatures invade and bring ruin to her kingdom with eldritch technology that siphons the life force of humans. Amidst the chaos, Mingma inadvertently catapults herself through a spacetime rift, entering the Bardo, a mystical purgatory realm between life, death, and rebirth. Throughout this narrative-driven tale, Mingma’s challenges are twofold: She must not only battle the interdimensional invaders, but also her inner demons, manifesting within the Bardo as projections of her own fears and anxieties.
Traverse sacred realms and face divine trials
Guided by ancient teachings and haunted by karmic echoes, you must navigate the perilous landscapes of the Bardo, where deities test your spirit through trials of wisdom, courage, and clarity. Crucial moments like facing the manifestations of Mingma’s psyche in the Bardo will involve classic platforming and quick thinking.
Cleanse the corrupted or crush them
In the living world, corrupted beings roam. You must choose: defeat them with force, or purify them through compassion. Each encounter is a reflection of your inner state, and every action shapes your path forward. Players experience occasional transitions from pure platforming to timed turn-based combat with an option to purify corrupted foes. This aims to encourage slowing down and strategizing rather than simply button mashing.
Unravel forgotten truths
Solve intricate environmental puzzles inspired by sacred geometry and ritual symbolism. Discover lost relics imbued with magical power, and unlock skill upgrades that deepen your connection to the spiritual and elemental forces around you.
Stop and breathe
Gentle, reflective prompts appear during dialogue or scene transitions to encourage grounding and presence between gameplay segments. Players earn meaningful in-game bonuses for taking breaks, reinforcing rest as part of the character’s well-being and fostering empathy with her journey.
