Nutvengers is an action indie co-op FPS on PC in which players control heavily armed nuts defending an arena against waves of forest animals. The core experience centers on surviving escalating hordes in online sessions for one to four players, with upgrades purchased between rounds to extend runs and customize loadouts.
Gameplay
The loop revolves around holding position in an arena while animals such as hamsters, rats, sand mice, rabbits, chickens, crows and eagles attack in waves. Each wave increases in difficulty, and players earn currency to spend in the shop that opens afterward. Upgrades include stat boosts, cores, artifacts and weapon modifiers that alter how guns function. Artifacts provide strong effects paired with drawbacks, while weapon modifiers can apply fire, freeze, shock, poison, life steal, bullet bounce or void damage. Rerolls allow players to refresh shop options, and beneficial cards can be stacked multiple times.
Nine distinct Vengers form the playable roster. Each carries unique stats, a weapon class, a passive ability and an ultimate that charges during combat. Hazelnut serves as a balanced option using assault rifles with an air bombers ultimate. Peanut emphasizes speed and close range via SMGs and a grenade ultimate. Almond acts as a durable mid-range marksman with a sky laser. Cashew focuses on long-range sniping and a recon ultimate. Walnut operates as a frontline shotgun user with an area shield. Coconut functions as the tankiest breacher with an auto turret. Acorn delivers hit-and-run tactics through a radioactive mushroom ultimate. Pistachio provides healing support with a heal turret. Nut works as a close-range suppressor equipped with a molotov ultimate. Leveling any Venger to 50 unlocks additional skills, armor and reward crates that fund cosmetic customization such as eyes, mouths, colors, weapon skins and attachments.
Combat incorporates over 50 guns across assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, sniper rifles, pistols, machine guns and grenade launchers, plus 12 melee options ranging from daggers and katanas to hammers and halberds. Heavy weapons draw ammunition from kills. Sights, muzzles and grips further personalize firearms. Controller support is included alongside built-in voice chat, text chat and emotes.
Game Modes
Matches support public, friends-only or private lobbies, with a lobby browser for joining others. Sessions run in online co-op for one to four players. Six difficulty settings progress from Nut I through Nutmare. Higher difficulties introduce mutated enemies that are larger, tougher and sometimes equipped with armor, electricity or laser eyes. Arena modifiers appear on the toughest settings and alter the environment mid-run with effects such as low gravity, total darkness, thick fog, poison spores or slime.
Endless mode activates after wave 20. Players may cash out winnings at that point or continue until the entire squad is defeated. Steam leaderboards track the farthest progress across runs. Between matches, players customize personal Venger Homes by building and upgrading structures, naming them and displaying pictures. A rideable rhino beetle can be housed and brought into arenas for additional mobility.
Progression and Customization
Each run features 95 upgrades that vary in availability, encouraging different builds every session. The 19 weapon modifiers create further variety by changing enemy interactions. The Nutbook serves as an in-game reference for all weapons and enemy types. Between runs, the lobby acts as a hub where players manage their homes and beetle companions.
Is It Worth Playing?
Nutvengers suits players who enjoy co-op wave survival shooters that emphasize squad roles, upgrade experimentation and escalating challenges. The nine Vengers encourage team composition around tanks, healers and damage dealers, while the upgrade system and weapon modifiers support repeated playthroughs with fresh strategies. Six difficulty tiers and arena modifiers provide scalable intensity, and endless mode extends sessions for those seeking high-score competition via leaderboards. The lighthearted premise of armed nuts versus forest animals adds personality without complicating the core action. Those who prefer structured co-op experiences with meaningful build choices and persistent progression will find the systems rewarding, particularly when coordinating with friends through voice or text chat.
