Though this story takes place in a modern city with no emperors, it is still intimately connected to this ancient ceremony. Behind the ritual lies a web of mystery, fantasy, and conflict. The word "Ji" (记) means "record" or "chronicle" much like a travel journal. As players explore the open city and unfold the plot step by step, they will uncover the hidden truths. Zen Town is a fictional coastal metropolis with a population of five million. The city features a unique blend of traditional Chinese architecture and old buildings from the 1970s and 1980s. The urban layout mixes bustling areas with extensive, aging residential districts, where most streets are lined with buildings over 30 years old.

Roughly three-quarters of Zen Town is composed of working-class neighborhoods, with the remainder being modern, more prosperous districts. Regardless of social class, the residents of Zen Town share a deep-rooted belief in folk religion. Shrines and temples are scattered throughout the city, and it’s common to see incense burning on sidewalks and offerings made to local deities — part of everyday life in this spiritually saturated metropolis.

Though Zen Town has generally been peaceful, a series of bizarre incidents begin to occur. Residents suddenly go mad and die on the spot. These cases are usually dismissed as rabies or acute psychosis leading to organ failure. However, autopsies reveal something far more disturbing: the victims continued to move even after death, showing signs of temporary reanimation.

With no medical history to support such explanations, and several cases happening simultaneously, the investigations stall. That’s when Hang is urgently brought in as a special agent for supernatural cases — despite his limited prior involvement in such matters.
