Synopsis

You awaken alone, in a world unfamiliar to you. It is the world of heroes and Tethers - Humans, as they call themselves. You know nothing, except for this:

You are not a Human. You are the shadow of your Tether, a girl who haunts your dream but whose face you've never seen.

This city is not your home, but you can learn why others make it so. Wander the empty halls, slip into the living quarters of stray Humans, and learn what makes them tick. Listen to their plights, break their wills, or put an end to their story; the choice is yours, but it will shape who you are.

Every step closes the distance between you and the shoes you wish to fill, and every choice sculpts another detail in the pattern of your existence. Eventually, if you run far enough and mold yourself into the perfect shadow, you may even be able to slip into the life of your Tether and dance as her copy.

Players will slip into the new life of a lonely 4-armed monster with a deep-seated heartache, who was recently spun into existence for a world that was not built for her. After gaining consciousness in a body that can barely stay intact, it's up to players to fill in the blanks of who Perdita is and shape who she will become. Despite that, she is not a blank slate character; Perdita has thoughts and emotions of her own, regardless of what path you send her down.

Every choice made is a thought in her own head, and every trait gained is one that she can reasonably form. A player simply refines her personality.

🦋 A soft-spoken, horror-tragedy story told in 5 Acts!

A Case of Missing Identity's story unfolds itself through 5 Acts - The Inception, The Formation, The Procession, The Completion, and The Cannibalization. Although the base of each Act will stay the same (wander the apartment building Perdita was formed in, slip into the homes of residents, and shape their immediate future with her actions), no two play-throughs will be the same. All Humans can suffer different outcomes in each Act, and the Distortions that Perdita meets will change based on what you did and when. The Traits you let Perdita earn will shape how each Act unfolds and how she interacts with the world around her.

With how hands-on a player is to be in shaping the course of Perdita's identity, it's only natural there are multiple ways the story can end. With over 6 finales to the story - each grand and unique in their own way - and countless variations leading up to how the pieces have to fall, a player is sure to be shocked and unnerved by what they've made Perdita into.

🦋 A Trait system that changes the story with each Act!

With each choice Perdita makes, her personality shifts and changes into something new; these form into Traits over time. Traits can be as minor as changing what information she picks up on a glance-through, or as major as locking or unlocking fates to dole out to those she meets. Shape her into an observant figure who holds no mercy towards Humans, a wary mind who keeps her distance from Distortions, or a volatile heart that runs toward happiness at all costs. 

Mix and match a variety of traits by choosing what thoughts and actions Perdita allows into her mind. Just remember: their fates depend on her identity.

These are the title of the Distortions that Perdita can meet through her story. They do not wield names like ordinary Humans, instead sporting a title that distills who they are into a neat, digestible phrase. Every Distortion has a story of their own to reveal during the course of gameplay, and the information they divulge depends on who Perdita is. From a cruel, mirror-bound Distortion reaching for a holiness not meant for her, to an erratic dragon whose nature is the product of a tragedy, no two monsters are the same. Their words and actions will change who Perdita becomes, as well, shaping her moral compass and what she believes is right.

If you learn enough of a Distortion's past throughout the Acts, you might even be able to influence their future at the end of it all.
