Players must weigh which units to protect, upgrade, or sacrifice. Sacrificing a champion triggers a Devil's Pact from the power below, altering gameplay for the remainder of the run with one of more than 30 such pacts available. More stars on a champion lead to stronger pacts. Additional systems include over 50 augments that modify core rules and over 90 smaller rites for further variation. Relics and new champions unlock progressively between runs to influence starting conditions.
