Camp Rivals is an indie sports game set at a summer camp where players create a camper, join one of four houses, and compete across multiple athletic events while managing daily life and long-term progress. The experience blends individual skill development with house competition in a single-player format available on PC.
Gameplay
Players begin by selecting one of four houses, each with a distinct focus that influences event performance. The Mustangs emphasize speed, the Bears highlight power, the Hawks stress precision, and the Otters specialize in water-based activities. Character customization follows, allowing adjustments to appearance before the sporting journey starts.
Eleven disciplines form the core of competition. These include running events over 400, 800, and 1500 metres, sack races, arm wrestling, shot put, tug of war, archery, clay shooting, swimming, and two-person canoe races. Each event demands specific mechanics that players practise to improve results over time. Strength, speed, precision, and water skills develop through repeated training and competition.
Fatigue plays a central role in preparation. Players must balance intense training with recovery through eating, drinking, and sleeping to maintain performance across multiple days. Progress carries forward across summers, encouraging consistent improvement rather than isolated sessions.
Game Modes
Story Mode structures the main experience around a full camp season. It spans 38 in-game days with three scheduled events each day, resulting in 114 competitions per summer. A calendar helps players plan training and recovery while contributing to their house's overall campaign through conversations and results. Beating the captains in their signature events unlocks those characters for other play options.
Quick Play offers direct access to any single event. Players can compete using their custom camper or any unlocked captains, then return to the ongoing story in Story Mode. This setup supports focused practice on particular disciplines without committing to the full seasonal structure.
Character and House Progression
Advancement ties directly to performance in events and daily camp routines. Unlocking captains as playable characters in Quick Play rewards success against them in Story Mode. The four houses provide different strategic angles for house-wide competition, while individual skill growth in strength, speed, precision, and water abilities carries across multiple summers.
The single-player design includes full English and Spanish text and voice support. Events mix track, field, strength, precision, and water disciplines, creating varied daily schedules that test different skill sets.
Is It Worth Playing?
Camp Rivals suits players who enjoy single-player sports simulations that combine event mechanics with management elements like fatigue and scheduling. The structure of Story Mode delivers a complete seasonal arc with repeated competitions, while Quick Play allows targeted practice. Those interested in house-based competition and gradual skill building across multiple playthroughs will find the systems rewarding. The game remains in development with a release date to be announced, so interested players can follow its progress for updates on availability.
