Uncounted is an indie tower defense game built around massive enemy swarms on PC. Players defend a fortress against thousands of advancing units in each sector, with every tower placed and aimed manually during a dedicated build phase before the wave begins.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on preparation followed by execution. Carriers release the horde from one side of the map, and the bodies advance toward the fortress on the opposite side. Layout decisions made in build time determine success once the wave starts, as the crowd flows around obstacles, clusters at narrow points, and slips through any gaps left undefended.
Enemy movement relies on GPU simulation to handle large numbers without traditional sprite limits. The result is a continuous stream that reacts to the environment in real time rather than following preset paths. Towers serve distinct roles instead of simple variants: volume fire from one type, piercing shots from another, arcing projectiles from mortars, area denial with flame and cryo effects, linear beams from lasers and tesla coils, and crushing force from gravity wells aimed at the center of the mass.
Once the wave is underway, reaction options are limited to a set of abilities including charge, drones, orbital strikes, and a nuke. Between sectors, resources such as credits, cores, and prisms feed into a persistent evolution tree that carries progress forward. Completing a sector unlocks the next weapon option, while finishing without leaks awards a mastery prism.
Game Modes
The single-player campaign consists of ten sectors, with later stages expanding into ocean environments that change the available space and flow patterns. A separate co-op experience supports two to four players and includes its own campaign plus special maps that introduce unique mechanics. Co-op sessions run over LAN or through Steam connections.
Progression and Systems
Resource management ties directly into long-term growth. Credits, cores, and prisms earned from sectors allow upgrades across the evolution tree, altering tower performance and ability strength for future waves. Weapon unlocks expand the available options for each new sector, encouraging experimentation with different combinations of volume, pierce, area, and control tools.
The simulation scale demands careful placement to create chokepoints and overlapping fields of fire. Gaps in coverage become critical failures when tens of thousands of units press forward, turning small layout errors into leaks that end the wave.
Is It Worth Playing?
Uncounted suits players who enjoy deliberate planning phases followed by intense observation of large-scale movement. The emphasis on manual tower aiming and distinct weapon functions rewards precise setup over rapid clicking. Co-op adds a layer of shared decision-making on larger maps with custom rules. Those seeking traditional tower defense with small enemy counts or automated placement may find the swarm focus and build-time restriction more demanding. The game remains available on PC with both solo and multiplayer options intact.
