HearthMoon is a single-player dark-fantasy survival RPG available on PC. Players settle into a living medieval village where every resident has a name, home, trade, and history that shapes interactions over time.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on building a life in the village while preparing for nightly threats. Players speak to any villager using voice or text input, and those characters respond in their own voices while recalling past conversations, actions, and observed events. Trust builds through consistent behavior, unlocking deeper information from different residents who each hold unique knowledge about the settlement.
Daily routines include visiting a market with twelve staffed stalls that open at set hours and close at dusk, ordering meals at the tavern, or joining poker games for in-game gold. Outside those hours, players claim land to construct houses piece by piece, fish in rivers lakes and the sea by casting and fighting the line, grow crops, gather resources, mine, cook, and craft to manage hunger and thirst.
Combat progression follows three paths: Warrior, Ranger, or Mage. Skills and spells come from village trainers and tomes found in the dark. A wild baby dragon can be tamed with patience and raw meat, then raised to follow commands, wear a custom collar, sleep in a built bed, and perform actions like attack or fetch.
Game Modes
HearthMoon offers a single-player experience focused on village life and survival. The main activities revolve around social interactions, resource management, construction, and defense against recurring threats rather than separate competitive or cooperative modes.
Players navigate the village during the day and face escalating dangers after dark. Graveyards release undead each night until dawn, while blood-moon nights bring a giant werewolf from the mountains that damages buildings. The village rebuilds at daybreak, and witnesses remember any crimes committed, affecting relationships and justice within the community.
Village Life and Progression
Exploration extends beneath the village into three floors of catacombs that lead to the Dragon Knight's hall. The knight retains memory of previous visits. A central mystery involves the source of the blood-moon beast, revealed only through sustained trust with multiple villagers. The main story and conversation-driven quests remain in active development.
AI dialogue and voices generate locally on the player's PC, with a microphone optional for voice input. Building supports owned village lots or wild land claims, and fishing, farming, mining, cooking, and crafting all tie directly into sustaining the character and dragon companion.
Is It Worth Playing?
HearthMoon remains in Early Access with acknowledged bugs, rough edges, and shifting balance. The main story and quest content are still under development, and player feedback will influence future updates. Those drawn to single-player survival RPGs that emphasize NPC memory, daily routines, companion raising, and periodic defense against undead or werewolf threats may find the systems engaging even in their current state. Others seeking a complete narrative or polished experience should wait for further updates before committing.
